GAF Golden Pledge in Florida: What Master Elite Actually Gets You

A lot of roof quotes in Tampa Bay say “lifetime shingles” and stop there. Lifetime on the wrapper is not the same as Golden Pledge® on GAF’s paper. Precision Roofing & Exteriors is GAF Master Elite, which is the only contractor class that can register Golden Pledge.

On a qualifying GAF system — Lifetime shingles, ridge cap, starter, leak barrier, deck protection, Cobra® ventilation — Golden Pledge gives a 50-year non-prorated Smart Choice® period on manufacturing defects for the system, plus workmanship coverage of 25 years (30 years on Timberline UHDZ® and Designer Lifetime shingles). Tear-off and disposal are included on covered claims. The first two years of workmanship sit with us; after that GAF backs it.

That is a different product from the base Shingle & Accessory warranty a non-certified installer leaves you with: 10 years of non-prorated manufacturing, no GAF workmanship, no tear-off.

“Lifetime” means as long as the original owner of a single-family detached home owns the property — or a second owner if the warranty was transferred in the first 20 years. Condos, commercial, and HOA-owned buildings are 40 years on Golden Pledge, not Lifetime. Transfer is free, once, if the next owner notifies GAF within a year of closing.

Two exclusions Tampa Bay homeowners mix up: hail is an act of nature and is not covered, and inadequate ventilation is excluded from every GAF warranty, including Golden Pledge. A sealed attic that cooks the deck is not a manufacturing defect. We spec soffit intake, baffles, and ridge exhaust on every GAF system roof for that reason.

We register the warranty with GAF within 45 days of installation. If you have not received it in about 60 days, call GAF at 1-888-532-5767 option 5, or call us. The warranty is not in effect until it is registered and we have been paid in full.
